The Board of Land and Natural Resources, State of Hawaii, pursuant to Chapter 183C, Hawaii Revised Statutes, will hold a meeting for the purpose of a public hearing to receive testimony on the following Conservation District Use Applications (CDUA):
CDUA HA-3499-Honotua Fiber Optic Cable is proposed on State submerged land, landing at Spencer Beach Park, Kawaihae, Hawaii, TMK: (3) 6-2-002:008. Office des postes et télécommunications de Polynésie française (OPT) proposes to install one subsea fiber optic cable that will provide a connection between the existing cable station and onshore telecommunications infrastructure at Spencer Beach, Hawaii, and OPT’s facilities in Tahiti. The proposed use is to install and operate a new system to improve current capacity. An important feature of the project is to use existing telecommunications infrastructure and corridors, which will retain the present “footprint” and use of the area as a hub for Pacific telecommunication systems.
CDUA HA-3497-Modifications to Kona Blue Water Farms that is located in State Marine Waters, southwest of Ulualoha Point, North Kona, island of Hawaii. Kona Blue Water is applying to modify its existing mariculture permit to expand the range of allowable pen types. The farm currently uses eight Sea Station 3000 pens. The proposal would allow for a maximum of five net pens, none larger than 7,000 cubic meters, and together no larger than the current capacity of 24,000 cubic meters. Pens could be submersible or surface pens. The pens could be used for research, breeding, or production. The primary species will be kahala (Seriola rivoliana). Kona Blue may also culture amberjack (S. dumerili), mahimahi (Coryphaena hippurus), and Pacific threadfin (Polydactylus sexifilis).
A copy of the applications, the maps of the general location of the area under consideration are available for inspection at the Kalanimoku Building, Room 131, 1151 Punchbowl Street, Honolulu; the Thelma Parker Public Library in Waimea; and the Kailua-Kona Public Library.
Any person may testify or present information on the application. Disabled individuals planning to attend the hearing are asked to contact the DLNR at the above address or phone Tiger Mills in Honolulu at (808) 587-0382 or Michael Cain at (808) 587-0048 at least three days in advance of the public hearing to indicate if they have special needs which require accommodation.
