NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
APPLICATION OF HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC.
FOR APPROVAL TO CONSTRUCT A 46 KV OVERHEAD SUBTRANSMISSION LINE,
PURSUANT TO HRS SECTION 269-27.6, FOR ITEM P0001390, WHITMORE SUBSTATION TRANSFORMER #1 AND 46 KV CIRCUIT

The PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION of the STATE OF HAWAII (“Commission”), pursuant to Section 269-27.5, Hawaii Revised Statutes (“HRS”), HEREBY GIVES NOTICE, that it will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, September 3, 2008, at 6:00 p.m., at Helemano School, 1001 Ihiihi Avenue, Wahiawa, Hawaii, regarding the application of HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC. (“HECO”), filed on June 27, 2008, for Commission approval of, among other things, the proposed construction of a 46 kilovolt (“kV”) overhead subtransmission line, pursuant to Section 269-27.6(a), HRS, for Item P0001390, Whitmore Substation Transformer #1 and 46 kV Circuit (“Proposed Project”).
The Proposed Project involves the construction of a new dedicated distribution substation in the National Security Agency’s Hawaii Regional Security Operations Center (“HRSOC”) property (“Whitmore Substation”); the overhead extension of one existing 46 kV subtransmission line (Wahiawa-Waialua #2) along Whitmore Avenue to the new Whitmore Substation, which would involve installing approximately 45 new 65-foot wood poles, and approximately 13,440 feet of 3-phase, 46 kV 556.5 KCM AAC overhead conductors along Whitmore Avenue and the new base entry road; and the installation of one 3-phase 15 kV underground cable in a new underground infrastructure from the Whitmore Substation to the HRSOC switchgear.
All interested persons are urged to attend the public hearing to state their views orally, in writing, or both. Written statements may be submitted prior to or at the public hearing. Statements may be mailed or delivered to the Public Utilities Commission, 465 South King Street, #103, Honolulu, Hawaii, 96813. Statements may also be sent by electronic mail to the Commission’s e-mail address at Hawaii.PUC@hawaii.gov. All written statements should reference Docket No. 2008-0132 and must include the following information: (1) name of the person submitting the written statement; (2) organization the person represents (if any); and (3) address of the person submitting the written statement.
