PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN of a public hearing to be held by the Customer Services Department of the City and County of Honolulu. The purpose of this public hearing is to set forth policies relating to the City’s sponsorship or co-sponsorship of parades and events.

In particular, the rules are intended to be consistent with the U.S. Supreme Court’s interpretation of the Free Exercise and Establishment Clauses. A violation may be present if a reasonable observer would believe that a governmental action conveys a message that religion or a particular religious belief is favored or preferred.

The rules also establish an executive policy that, when the City sponsors or co-sponsors parades or activities, participation in the parades or events shall be non-discriminatory.

DATE: June 18, 2008

TIME: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

PLACE: Mission Memorial Auditorium
