The State Legislature created the Kahoolawe Island Reserve Commission (KIRC) to manage the Kahoolawe Island Reserve while it is held in trust for a future Native Hawaiian sovereign entity. KIRC establishes policies and controls uses; coordinates the environmental restoration of the Reserve; provides for the perpetuation of Native Hawaiian customs, beliefs and practices; and serves as the Navys single point of contact for State oversight of ordnance cleanup.
The Kahoolawe Island Reserve Commission is recruiting qualified candidates for the following vacancies and anticipated vacancies:
Commission Assistant Arranges commission meetings; records, distributes and maintains meeting minutes; prepares public hearing notices; arranges travel; maintains calendar system; provides administrative and clerical support, including drafting documents and maintaining the office filing system.
Cultural Resources Specialist II Integrates a cultural approach into all KIRC program activities; facilitates appropriate cultural ceremonies; develops appropriate preservation, mitigation and/or site restorations plans; manages artifacts curated and stored on Maui and Kahoolawe.
Ocean Resources Specialist II Coordinates resources monitoring and field operations on land, by air and in water, including SCUBA operations; assists in identifying, developing and implementing sound scientific monitoring methods and protocols; analyzes data and assesses status of marine resources.
Operations Officer/UXO Specialist Serves as KIRCs technical resource in UXO detection, avoidance and safety procedures; coordinates with the Navy on UXO issues; serves as KIRCs environmental and safety officer, including the establishment, implementation and training of SOPs and compliance with OSHA, HIOSH and other safety regulations.
