TRANSPORTATION PLANNER –
PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT PROGRAM

The Oahu Metropolitan Planning Organization (OMPO) is seeking an energetic, highly motivated, and independent individual to oversee and guide its public involvement program. The selected individual will work closely with the public, government agencies, private sector, and the OMPO Citizen Advisory Committee (CAC). Attention to detail is a must.

Responsibilities include coordinating planning activities with the general public, government agencies, and private sector; writing reports, minutes, and correspondence; planning, coordinating, and attending CAC meetings; assisting in developing, maintaining, and monitoring transportation programs; fact-finding and analysis of policy and transportation issues; maintaining OMPO’s website; and performing other duties, as assigned.

Must possess exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; have initiative; be self-motivating, accurate, dependable, and flexible; and be able to follow directions.

Requires a Bachelor\u2019s degree from an accredited university (a Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, or a closely related field is desirable); a minimum of 2-1/2 years of professional work experience in dealing with the public, communications, community planning, urban and/or regional planning, or closely related field (a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field of study may substitute for 2-1/2 years of the required professional work experience). Experience in developing and implementing public involvement and outreach strategies; proficiency with MS Office Suite; and working knowledge of webpage development and maintenance is highly desirable.

This position is an Exempt, Non-Civil Service Position with the State of Hawaii. Applicants must be citizens, permanent resident aliens, or nationals of the United States; or non-citizens authorized to work in the United States. Salary commensurate with experience. All State of Hawaii Fringe Benefits included.
