SECTION 106 NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT (AMENDED 2006)
Maalo Road Resurfacing, M.P. 1.0 to 2.0
Ahupua’a of Hanamaulu

Notice is hereby given that the Hawaii Department of Transportation, (HDOT), In
coordination with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), proposes to construct
the project titled “Maalo Road Resurfacing, M.P. 1.0 to 2.0”, in the Lihue District on
the Island of Kauai. HDOT proposes to cold-plane, resurface, reconstruct weakened
pavement areas, remove existing pavement markers and traffic signs, install new
pavement markers, traffic signs and milled rumble strips, clean existing culvert and
drainage structures. Depth of reconstruction areas will be 11 inches (typical). Traffic
signs to be installed on this project are approximately 1-5 feet from the edge of
existing pavement. All work will be done within the State Highways rights-of-way.
Pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (Amended
2006), Native Hawaiian Organizations and Native Hawaiian descendants with
ancestral lineal or cultural ties to, cultural knowledge or concerns for, and cultural
or religious attachment to the historic resources of the ahupua’a of Hanamaulu,
