NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
APPLICATION OF HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC.
FOR APPROVAL TO CONSTRUCT AN OVERHEAD SUBTRANSMISSION LINE
Docket No. 2013-0423
The STATE OF HAWAII PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION (“Commission”), pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes §§ 269-27.5 and 269-27.6(a), HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that it will hold a public hearing relating to the Application of Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. (“HECO”), filed on December 12, 2013, for Commission approval to construct an overhead 46 kilovolt (“kV”) sub-transmission line originating from the Na Pua Makani Wind Project in the Kahuku area of Oahu. The public hearing will be held as follows:
Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 6:00 p.m.
Kahuku High & Intermediate School Cafeteria
56-490 Kamehameha Highway
Kahuku, HI 96731
The overhead line extension was initiated at the request of HECO in order to accommodate the interconnection of the Na Pua Makani Wind Project (the “Project”), located in Kahuku, Oahu. The Commission approved a power purchase agreement between HECO and Na Pua Makani Power Partners, LLC, under which HECO will purchase electric energy generated at the Project. In order to interconnect the Project to HECO’s grid, HECO must construct a 46 kV overhead line extension between the Project and the existing Kooalu-Kahuku 46 kV circuit.
The overhead line extension work will consist of installing approximately twenty- three guyed and self-supported steel poles, a manually operated, lockable, group operated switch, and approximately 4,900 feet of three-phase 336.4 KCM ACC
46 kV overhead conductors.
Copies of HECO’s Application are available for public review through the Commission’s electronic Document Management System, accessible at http://dms.puc.hawaii.gov/dms/. The proposed 46 kV line extension is also more thoroughly explained in HECO’s “Amended and Restated Power Purchase Agreement Dated August 12, 2016 and Interconnection Requirements Study,” which was filed on September 15, 2016, in this docket. In addition, copies of HECO’s Application are also available for review by contacting HECO [(808) 548-7311], the Commission’s Honolulu Office [(808) 586-2020], or the Division of Consumer Advocacy [(808) 586-2800].
All interested persons are invited to attend the public hearing to state their views on HECO’s Application. Statements may also be mailed to the Public Utilities Commission, 465 South King Street, Room No. 103, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813, or
e-mailed to puc.comments@hawaii.gov. All written statements should reference Docket No. 2013-0423. Special accommodations for persons with disabilities can be made if requested reasonably in advance by contacting the Commission’s Honolulu Office.
