GUARDRAIL AND SHOULDER IMPROVEMENTS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS, PART 4

Notice is hereby given that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Highways Division
propose a guardrail and shoulder improvement project. This proposed project is a federal funded HDOT project. It will be considered a federal
action and undertaking, as defined by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended (2006). HDOT proposes to
improve the highway by replacing existing guardrail in several non¬contiguous areas along Kaumualii Highway (Route 50), Kuhio Highway (Route
56) and Kuamoo Road (Route 580). All work will be done within the existing, previously disturbed State right-of-way (ROW). The proposed project
involves removing and replacing existing guardrail end treatments and raising transition sections of existing guardrail posts and rail. Maximum
depth of guardrail end treatments will be 6’-0″ and maximum depth of raised existing transition sections of rail will be 4’-0″ (typical). The Area of
Potential Effects (APE) is 0.9372 acre and is broken into a total of 106 locations: 16 locations along Route 50, Kaumualii Highway, Mile Post 3.0 to
Mile Post 12.08; 72 locations along Route 56, Kuhio Highway, Mile Post 1.16 to Mile Post 25.34; and 18 locations along Route 580, Kuamoo Road,
Mile Post 0.04 to Mile Post 3.91.
