NOTICE OF CONSULTATION
SECTION 106 OF THE NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT OF 1966 AS AMENDED (2006)
KOHALA MOUNTAIN ROAD SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS
SOUTH KOHALA DISTRICT, ISLAND OF HAWAII, WAIKA AND KAWAIHAE AHUPUAA

Notice is hereby given that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Highways Division, propose a Highway Safety Improvement Program project along route 250 from mile post 7.2 to 9.2. This proposed project is a federally funded HDOT project. It will be considered a federal action and undertaking, as defined by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended (2006). The scope of work involves cold planing and resurfacing of existing pavement; construction of pavement shoulder pullout parking areas for emergency and law enforcement use; installation of milled centerline rumble strips, high friction surface treatment, curve ahead signs, flashing beacons, chevrons, guardrails, pavement markings, and signing. The Area of Potential Effects for the project is within the State’s right-of-way that is 2.0 miles in length, 60 feet wide, and approximately 14.5 acres.
