NOTICE OF PUBLICATION AND NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Notice is hereby given that the Council of the County of Kaua’i will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at 1:30 p.m., or soon thereafter, at the Council Chambers, 4396 Rice Street, Room 201, Historic County Building, Lihu’e, on the following:

RESOLUTION SUPPORTING ECONOMIC JUSTICE FOR HAWAI’I’S WORKING FAMILIES: LIVING WAGE, PAID SICK LEAVE, PAID FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE, AND RIGHT TO ORGANIZE

This Resolution would assert the Council’s policy statement supporting that the State Legislature take the following actions: (1) increase the minimum wage to $15.00 effective January 1, 2019; (2) establish paid sick leave as specified in the Resolution; (3) broaden the applicability of existing family and medical leave entitlements prescribed by Hawai’i Revised Statutes (HRS) Chapter 398; and (4) reaffirm the Legislature’s support of workers by passing a Resolution calling for Congressional labor law reform that helps workers bargain for dignity on the job, fair wages, and job security; and that strengthens the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) to better cover and protect workers.

All interested persons who wish to present their comments may do so at the public hearing. Written testimony prior to the hearing would be appreciated. Written testimony can be submitted to the Office of the County Clerk, Council Services Division by mail, facsimile, or via E-mail to counciltestimony@kauai.gov. Copies of the proposed Resolution are available at the Office of the County Clerk, Council Services Division.

(The Council Committee or Council may amend this Resolution at its subsequent meetings. Meeting notices are posted at least 6 days in advance at the County Clerk’s Office and the public may also testify at any of these meetings.)
