LEGISLATIVE ANALYST
Type of Position:
Appointed position concurrent with the term of the County Council; not a civil service position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Works independently, with minimal supervision (often in coordination with others), to support and carry out the functions of the Office of Council Services. Typical duties include the following: gathering, analyzing, and reporting information; drafting written notices, correspondence, reports, and other documents; providing staff support for committee meetings (occasionally involving night meetings, off-island meetings, and travel by light aircraft); responding to inquiries from other agencies and the public; and procuring, coordinating, and evaluating services to support legislative functions. In general, assignments involve a variety of duties and topics pertaining to functions performed by the legislative branch of the County of Maui; however, initial assignments are likely to focus on legislative functions relating to accounting, auditing, and program evaluation as it pertains to the County. Accordingly, background in these areas is heavily weighted. Other related duties may be assigned, including light lifting and use of electronic equipment.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a four-year degree. (Attach official transcript or copy of diploma.)
Citizenship and Residence: All persons seeking employment with the Office of Council Services shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under Federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
License requirement: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator\u2019s license.
Physical condition: Able to meet certain physical requirements such as lifting equipment weighing 50 pounds. Occasionally, travel on light aircraft is required.
Examination:
All applicants must qualify on a written test.
Compensation:
Salary range from $36,048 to $70,236 annually, as established by Section 2.08.060 of the Maui County Code, depending on education and experience.
