NOTICE OF EXTENDED CLOSURE
KULA FOREST RESERVE
ISLAND OF MAUI

Pursuant to Chapter 185-4 (b) (3) & (4) Hawaii Revised Statutes, Section 13-130-19 (a) (1) and Section 13-146-4, Hawaii Administrative Rules, the Department of Land and Natural Resources has extended the Kula Forest Reserve closure due to impacts of the Upper Waiohuli wildfire in late January. Dangerous conditions such as fire-weakened trees that can fall at any time persist. The access road and other facilities and infrastructure in or adjacent to the burn area need additional repair and/or replacement. The extension of closure will allow for initial rehabilitation / restoration work to progress uninterrupted. The Kula Forest Reserve will remain closed until July 1, 2007.
