DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE
United States Air Force

Notice of Availability (NOA) of the Draft Environmental Assessment (DEA) for the Air Force Disposal of Johnston Atoll

AGENCY: United States Air Force, DoD.
ACTION: Notice of Availability.
—————————————————————-

SUMMARY: This announces the availability of the DEA for the Air Force disposal of Johnston Atoll. The purpose of the action is to transfer ownership of Johnston Atoll, resulting in removal of the property from the Air Force Real Property Inventory Listing. The need for the action arises from the fact that the Air Force has not identified any current or future missions or requirements for Johnston Atoll and the property has been deemed as “foreign excess property”. The DEA examines the potential environmental impacts of the following alternatives: (1) Proposed Action (disposal of Johnston Atoll) and (2) No-Action (Johnston Atoll remains under the administrative and operational control of the Air Force). Based on the potential environmental consequences disclosed in the DEA, the Air Force has determined that the Proposed Action would not have a significant adverse impact on the environment.

DATES: Public comment on the DEA will be accepted during the 30-day public comment period beginning April 26, 2007 and ending May 25, 2007. All comments received or postmarked by May 25, 2007 will be considered and responded to in the Final EA.
