$5,476.00 – $7,488.00 monthly
The County of Hawai`i, on behalf of its residents, is seeking an individual who will maintain and grow its Civil Defense Agency.
Necessary abilities and skills:
be proactive and visionary
be energetic and committed to the Countys mission
able to lead a diverse island community
work collaboratively with agencies and organizations in planning for and responding to times of civil defense and emergencies
understand or quickly learn the diverse culture and geography of the island and its residents
be empathetic to the concerns and issues of residents and visitors
be able to work for 24-hour periods for varying durations
must be on-call 24/7 basis
be able to respond quickly in engaging the emergency command center and assume the leadership role in coordinating emergency services and required aftermath activities
possess good communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and succinctly
possess critical thinking skills so as to exercise sound judgment difficult times
be thorough in analysis and decision-making
This position directs and coordinates the development and administration of the Countys total emergency preparedness and response program to ensure prompt and effective action when disasters threaten or occur; organizes, directs and coordinates all County Civil Defense operations which are required to meet the public need; exercises direction and control through the Countys Civil Defense Disaster Response Organization; maintains warning procedures, emergency call lists, and initiates alerting and warning actions on notification of impending natural and man-made disasters; initiates and coordinates civil defense public education and community action programs.
Minimum qualification requirements: A combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in public or business administration, accounting, economics or a related field, and 5 years of responsible experience in administering the activities of a large organization or groups of organizations. Must possess a valid drivers license (please submit a copy of your college transcript and drivers license with the application).
