The Kahoolawe Island Reserve Commission manages the Kahoolawe Island Reserve (Reserve). The Reserve is used for the preservation and practice of all rights customarily and traditionally exercised by native Hawaiians for cultural, spiritual and subsistence purposes; preservation and protection of its archaeological, historical and environmental resources; rehabilitation, revegetation, habitat restoration; and education.
The Executive Director implements cultural, educational, revegetation, and ocean use programs; fund development projects; and volunteer coordination. Other responsibilities include managing day-to-day operations, implementing legislative strategy, and managing contracts and agreements with other organizations.
The position, based on Maui, requires a masters degree and at least ten (10) years of management experience, strategic planning and implementation, effective communications skills, staff development, and cultural sensitivity. Knowledge of archaeology, Hawaiian history, culture, and competency in the Hawaiian language are preferred.
