PUBLIC NOTICE

In accordance with 36 CFR Part 800, and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, as amended, the Department of the Army, Installation Management Command, Army Reserve Office is soliciting public comment regarding the proposed transfer of 11.65 acres of the Vancouver National Historic Reserve known as the West Barracks/600 Area tract to the City of Vancouver. The proposed transfer tract is bounded by the Washington State Highway Patrol and the O.O. Howard House tracts to the north, Fort Vancouver Way to the east, the Federal Highway Administration tract to the south and Interstate 5 to the west. The Vancouver National Historic Reserve is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places; therefore protective covenants will be placed on the West Barracks/600 Area tract prior to its transfer out of federal ownership. The transfer tract is adjacent to the (historic) Hudson Bay Company Cemetery, which is known to contain 19th century remains of Native Hawaiians and Native Americans. The Cemetery will remain in federal ownership.
