Request for Qualifications for Environmental Planners
For the Development of a Natural Resources
Management Plan relating to Mauna Kea

The Research Corporation of the University of Hawaii (RCUH) on behalf of the University of Hawaii at Hilo’s Office of Mauna Kea Management (OMKM) is issuing a Request for Qualification (RFQ) for professional environmental planning firms with an interest in providing planning services for the development of a natural resource management plan for Mauna Kea. Specifically, the areas of concern are the Mauna Kea Science Reserve (summit region of Mauna Kea), the Mauna Kea Access Road, and Mid-level Facilities area at Hale Pohaku. The plan should include the following:

€ Description of the resources including biological and physical resources
€ Threats to the resources such as alien species, ground water, climatic change and human use and occupancy
€ Management goals and objectives including protec- tion, preservation and enhancement, reasonable
accommodation of human use and occupancy, and
issues relating to planning telescope decommissioning and site restoration
€ Implementation plan that addresses management
activities and plan maintenance

Interested professional environmental planning firms should submit a letter expressing interest and qualification statements. Details on submittal requirements are available at the Office of Mauna Kea Management at the address below or electronically. Deadline for submittals is Thursday, December 28, 2006, 4:00 PM HST.
