REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Do you need to register with the Campaign Spending Commission when you make contributions to candidates or non candidate committes?

Yes, if you are an organization, association, corporation, partnership, limited liability company, labor organization, etc., who receives contributions or makes contributions to candidates or noncandidate committees that amount to more than $1,000, in the aggregate, in a two-year election period, you are required to register as a noncondidate committee within ten days of exceeding $1,000.*

CONTRIBUTIONS

ffective January 1, 2006, an organization, association, corporation, partnership, limited liability company, labor organization, etc., may contribute from its own treasury, a maximum of $1,000, in the aggregate, per election, to its noncandidate committee.**

*An individual spending personal funds does not have to register and can contribute up to the limit of the office of each candidate.

**An organization, etc., may have more than $1,000 in its non candidate committee available to contribute to candidates if: (1) it contributed unlimited funds to its noncandidate committee prior to January 1, 2006, and/or (2) officers and employees of the organization, etc., have contributed personal funds to the organization’s noncandidate committee.
