NOTICE OF CONSULTATION

SECTION 106 OF THE NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT OF 1966 as AMENDED (2006)

KAMEHAMEHA HIGHWAY RESURFACING, LAIEWAI BRIDGE TO WAIPUHI BRIDGE

DISTRICT OF KOOLAULOA, ISLAND OF OAHU, AHUPUAA OF LAIE, KAIPAPAU, HAUULA, AND MAKAO

FEDERAL-AID PROJECT NO. NH-083-1(080)

Notice is hereby given that the Federal Highway Administration and the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation (HDOT) propose to resurface Kamehameha Highway from Laiewai Bridge to Waipuhi Bridge. The proposed project is a federally funded HDOT project. It will be considered a federal action and undertaking, as defined by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended (2006).

The scope of work includes cold planing; resurfacing; reconstructing weakened pavement areas; adjusting utilities; upgrading existing guardrail, end treatments, bridge railings and end posts; installing milled centerline and shoulder rumble strips, safety edge, shoulder dressing, reflector markers, milepost reference markers, pavement markings, and striping; and replacing signage.

The Area of Potential Effect for this project occupies approximately 25 acres. It includes the length and width of the highway right-of-way that is 3.99 miles long and up to 50 feet wide.
