PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE
FOR PROPOSED RULES AMENDMENTS TO
THE KAUAI POLICE COMMISSION RULE ON
ADMINISTRATIVE PRACTICE AND PROCEDURE

The Kaua’i Police Commission will hold a public hearing for the purpose of adopting changes to the administrative rules and procedure. The proposed rule changes would establish authority and a mission statement, conduct of Police Commissioners, specific powers, duties and responsibilities of the Police Commission, procedures to discipline the Chief of Police, define charges as allegations, define findings in rendering a decision on charges brought to the Commission’s attention through the citizen complaint process, and qualifications for the Chief of Police.

The hearing will begin at 9:00 A.M. or shortly thereafter on Friday, December 16, 2016, at the Lihu’e Civic Center, Mo’ikeha Building, Meeting Room 2A/2B, 4444 Rice Street, Lihu’e, Hawai’i. All interested persons are urged to attend the public hearing to present testimony.

Person (s) unable to attend or wishing to provide testimony may mail or hand deliver their written testimony by Friday, December 9, 2016 to the Office of Boards and Commissions, 4444 Rice Street, Suite 150, Lihu’e, Hawai’i 96766. If you need an alternate format, or an auxiliary aid to participate, please contact the Office of Boards and Commissions at (808) 241-4920 at least seven (7) working days before the hearing is scheduled to start.

A copy of the proposed rule amendments will be mailed to any interested person who requests a copy and pays the required fees and the postage. Requests may be made by phone, facsimile, or mail. Requests may be made up to and including the date of the public hearing.

In addition, copy of the proposed rule amendments may be reviewed in person between the hours of 7:45 A.M. and 4:30 P.M. The Chair of the Kaua’i Police Commission may impose a time limit for each person presenting testimony at the hearing.
