REAL PROPERTY TAX FILING DEADLINES

The deadline for filing an application for the following programs is December 31, 2016. Your application must be filed with our office on, or before this deadline. Your application may also be mailed with a postmark on or before 12/31/16.

Homeowner’s Exemption
If you own or lease a home or condominium in the County and use it as your principal residence, you may qualify for a homeowner’s exemption which could reduce your property tax bill.

Totally Disabled Veterans
If you are totally disabled due to injuries received while on duty with the armed forces of the United States and your principal residence is in this County, you may qualify for an exemption from all property taxes except for the minimum on your principal residence.

Persons Affected by Hansen’s Disease
If you have been declared by authority of law to be a person affected with Hansen’s Disease, you may be exempted, except for the minimum tax, from property taxes on all real property owned up to, but not exceeding a total taxable value of $50,000.

Persons who are Blind, Deaf, or Totally Disabled
If you are blind, deaf, or totally disabled, you may be eligible for an additional $50,000 exemption on top of the homeowner’s exemption, except for the minimum tax, however you must be eligible for the homeowner’s exemption also.

Affordable Rental Housing Program
If you own rental property that qualifies as an affordable rental based on the rates set annually, your property may qualify for a special classification and its tax benefits. Because the rates change annually, one of the requirements is for an annual application. For the other requirements and the rates contact the Real Property Tax office. The contact information is shown below.

Non-dedicated Agricultural Use Program
If your parcel is in commercial agricultural use and you are not currently receiving a benefit for that use, you may qualify for a reduced assessment. You should review the qualifications then complete and file an application.

General Instructions

Owners or lessees who apply for any of the exemptions or programs above must have their ownership or interest in the property properly recorded at the Bureau of Conveyances on, or before, the filing deadline. All applications must be timely filed by the deadline and include all required attachments.
