SECTION 106 OF THE NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT OF 1966 AS AMENDED (2006)
KALANIANAOLE HIGHWAY RESURFACING, VICINITY OF MAKAPUU TO HANAUMA BAY ROAD
WAIMANALO AND MAUNALUA AHUPUAA, DISTRICT OF KOOLAUPOKO, ISLAND OF OAHU

Notice is hereby given that the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Highways Division proposes to improve safety features and provide smooth rideability by resurfacing Kalanianaole Highway from the vicinity of Makapuu to Hanauma Bay Road. This proposed project is a federal funded HDOT project. It will be considered a federal action and undertaking, as defined by Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, as amended (2006). The project involves cold planing, resurfacing, reconstruction of weakened pavement areas, widening paved shoulders, upgrading grated inlets, upgrading and repairing existing culverts and headwalls, replacing damaged culvert with concrete pipe, upgrading existing guardrails and end treatments, constructing curb adjacent to existing thrie beam, upgrading existing curb ramps, installation of new guardrails, installation of new traffic counting station, milled centerline and rumble strips, pavement markings and signage, and adjusting utility manholes. The project’s area of potential effect will fall within the State right-of-way. See attached project location map.
