Public Notices

WATER CONSERVATION NOTICE
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

AFFECTED AREA: WAIMEA TOWN TO KAWAIHAE, POHAKEA MAUKA, KALOPA MAUKA, PA’AUILO MAUKA, OLD AHUALOA ROAD, AND KUKUIHAELE; SOUTH KOHALA AND HAMAKUA, HAWAI’I

Due to the ongoing dry weather conditions and an anticipated drier winter, the Department of Water Supply would like to remind consumers in the Affected Area that they are under a Water Conservation notice. Water conservation calls for a voluntary 10% reduction in water use. We ask for your kokua in reaching this water conservation goal. Listed are some ways to conserve water:

Wash only full loads of laundry or dishes at a time.
Check faucets and pipes for leaks.
Keep a container of drinking water in the refrigerator.
Do not let water run when you wash, shave, or brush your teeth. Reduce showering times.
Use water-saving devices.
Use a broom instead of a water hose for cleaning.
Irrigate at night and with a pail for small jobs.
Use drinking water wisely.

All agricultural users: keep water usage to a minimum. Irrigate only when necessary and only at night and during non-peak hours, from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. Minimize water use for dust control.

Please share this message with your family, friends, associates, tenants, and other business partners. We stand behind our mission to provide safe, reliable, affordable drinking water, and we ask you to stand with us in support of our motto: “Water, our most precious resource, Ka Wai a Kane.”

If this trend of extremely drier weather continues, the next water notice will be a water restriction notice. Please conserve water.

For more information, please contact Mr. Andrew Higa, Water Service District Supervisor II, at 887-3030.
