NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

APPLICATION OF HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC.
FOR APPROVAL TO CONSTRUCT AN OVERHEAD SUBTRANSMISSION LINE

Docket No. 2015-0114

The STATE OF HAWAII PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION (“commission”), pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes §§ 269-27.5 and 269-27.6(a), HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that it will hold a public hearing relating to the Application of Hawaiian Electric Company, Inc. (“HECO”), filed on April 24, 2015, for commission approval to relocate an overhead 46 kilovolt (“kV”) sub-transmission line (the “Project”) near Maipalaoa Stream Bridge in the Waianae area of Oahu. The public hearing will be held as follows:

Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at 6:00 p.m.
Ma’ili Elementary School Cafeteria
87-360 Kula’aupuni Street
Waianae, HI 96792

The Project was initiated at the request of the Department of Transportation, State of Hawaii (“DOT”) in order to accommodate the replacement and widening of the existing Maipalaoa Stream Bridge. To accommodate the DOT’s construction, the 46 kV line will be temporarily relocated to the makai (ocean-side) side of the Farrington Highway. Following the complete replacement of the bridge, the permanent overhead 46 kV lines will be reinstalled along the Farrington Highway in approximately the same original alignment, along the mauka (mountain-side) side, and the temporary lines will be removed.

The temporary overhead relocation work consists of the installation of six 65-foot wood poles, and approximately 945 circuit feet of 556 KCM AAC 46 kV, 336 KCM AAC 12 kV, and secondary aerial overhead conductors. In addition, approximately 205 circuit feet of 556 KCM AAC 46 kV, 336 KCM AAC 12 kV, and secondary aerial overhead conductors will be removed.
The permanent overhead extension work consists of the installation of approximately 205 circuit feet of 556 KCM AAC 46 kV, 336 KCM AAC 12 kV, and secondary overhead conductors. In addition, four of the temporary 65-foot wood poles and approximately 945 circuit feet of 556 KCM AAC 46 kV, 336 KCM AAC 12 kV, and secondary aerial overhead conductors will be removed.
The end result of this Project is that there will be a net effect of zero poles added/removed. Two of the six poles installed during the temporary relocation will replace existing poles and remain as part of the permanent relocated line.
