BUSINESS OF COMMISSION
1. Nomination of the Honoka’a Town Multiple-Property to the National Register of Historic Places. The Honoka’a Town multi-property complex identifies 37 contributing structures along Mamane Street in downtown Honoka’a. Multiple-property nominations aid in the evaluation of individual properties for the National Register and are not nominations in their own right. The Honoka’a Town multiple-property nomination provides the context for three individual nominations: the Ferreira Building, the Honoka’a People’s Theater and the Hotel Honoka’a Club.
2. Nomination of the Ferreira Building to the National Register of Historic Places, 45-3625 Mamane Street, Honoka’a, Hawai’i 96727, TMK: (3) 4-5-007:007. The Ferreira Building was constructed in 1927, contains 7 contributing structures, and is of early 20th century vernacular “Plantation Style” architecture. The subject property is listed on the State Register of Historic Places. Its proposed qualification for the National Historic Register is based off of Criteria C of the National Register Criteria.
3. Nomination of the Honoka’a People’s Theater to the Hawai’i and National Register of Historic Places,
45-3574 Mamane Street, Honoka’a, Hawai’i 96727, TMK: (3) 4-5-016:011 & 056. The Honoka’a People’s Theater was constructed in 1930, is of the Classical Revival Style architecture, is typical of its period in design, materials, methods of construction and workmanship, and has served as an entertainment center in the town of Honoka’a throughout much of its history. Its proposed qualification for the Hawai’i and National Historic Registers is based off of Criteria A and C of the National Register Criteria.
4. Nomination of the Hotel Honoka’a Club to the Hawai’i and National Register of Historic Places, 45-3480 Mamane Street, Honoka’a. Hawai’i 96727, TMK: (3) 4-5-006:013. The Hotel Honoka’a Club was originally constructed in 1927, is of the vernacular plantation-era architecture, and provided a site for local gatherings, guest accommodations, and socialization throughout its history. Its proposed qualification for the Hawai’i and National Historic Registers is based off of Criteria A and C of the National Register Criteria.
