INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR:

CIVIL DEFENSE MANAGER
(Exempt Appointment)
$74,628 – $96,888 Annually
Salary is commensurate with experience.

Under the general direction of the Mayor, this position is responsible for the civil defense program for the County of Kaua’i by directing civil defense activities and civil defense emergency management mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery initiatives and programs for the County of Kaua’i.

The ideal candidate possesses knowledge of civil defense laws, federal legislation affecting civil defense administration, government organization
of the State of Hawai’i and its political subdivisions; has excellent organizational and administrative skills, including supervision and public relations. This candidate possesses the ability to assimilate details and analyze problems, excellent communication, orally and in writing and the ability to act decisively in emergency situations, manage various budgets including emergency management and Homeland Security grants.

This position is on-call 24 hours, 7 days/week. May require irregular hours, weekend and/or holiday work, and exposure to hazards. Must be able to respond within 30 minutes of call and perform long hours of duty during civil defense alerts and emergencies.

A combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in public or business administration with five (5) years of progressively responsible, professional experience in planning and executing programs in training, education, information, warning, disaster reporting, damage assessment, mitigation
programming, logistics or supervisory capacity in the above fields of work experience in administering the activities of a large organization or groups of organizations is preferred.
