COUNTY OF KAUAI PLANNING DEPARTMENT, LIHUE, KAUAI

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Planning Commission of the County of Kauai, State of Hawaii, has scheduled a hearing at the Lihue Civic Center, Moikeha Building, Meeting Room 2-A-B, 4444 Rice Street, Lihue, Kauai on Tuesday, October 14 at 9:00 A.M., or soon thereafter, to consider under the provisions of Chapter 8, Section 8-3.4 of the Kauai County Code 1987, as amended, and Section 14.11 of the Kauai County Charter, the following:
ZA-2015-1: A proposed ordinance to implement the South Kauai Community Plan, which is an update to the existing Koloa-Poipu-Kalaheo Development Plan, and includes the communities of Koloa, Poipu, Kalaheo, Omao and Lawai. The proposed ordinance will amend Chapter 10, Article 6 of the Kauai County Code to identify potential special planning areas to accommodate future growth and to establish new special planning areas for the town cores of Koloa and Kalaheo, and an area adjacent to the Poipu Road roundabout, and exceptions, modifications and additions to Chapters 8, 9 and 10 of the Kauai County Code. The Special Planning Areas will provide development standards and guidelines to help achieve the goals and objectives for the South Kauai Planning District that were created through a public planning process and with assistance from a Citizen’s Advisory Committee.
The following special planning areas are proposed:
1. Special Planning Area “H”, also known as the “Koloa Town Walkable Mixed Use District”.
2. Special Planning Area “I”, also known as the “Kalaheo Town Walkable Mixed Use District”.
3. Special Planning Area “J”, also known as the “Poipu Roundabout Walkable Mixed Use District”.
The South Kauai Community Plan Update proposed ordinance, and map of Special Planning Areas “H”, “I”, and “J” may be viewed during office hours at the Planning Department at 4444 Rice Street, Suite 473, Lihue, Hawaii 96766. Copies may be obtained by paying a charge for photocopying or may be sent by mail upon request and receipt of a charge for photocopying and postage. Inquiries may be made by calling 808-241-4050.
All interested persons are afforded the opportunity to submit data, views, or arguments, and these may be filed in writing with the Planning Department prior to the public hearing or presented orally at the public hearing. Late written testimony may be submitted up to seven (7) days after the close of the hearing in cases where the Commission does not take action on the same day the hearing was held. The Rules of Practice and Procedure of the Planning Commission are available for inspection at the Planning Department.
