Destruction of Special Education Records
The Department of Education no longer needs personally identifiable information used to provide special education services to those students who graduated with a diploma in 2011 or turned 22 years old prior to the start of the 2011-2012 school year. For those, parents or adult students, who would like to inspect or review their records, arrangements must be made by calling their respective district office no later than July 31, 2014. The information must be destroyed at the request of the parent or adult student. However, a permanent record of the student’s name, address, phone number, his or her grades, attendance record, classes attended, grade level completed, and year completed may be maintained without time limitation.
