VARIANCE APPLICATION NO. WW 371
DOCKET NO. 13-VWW-08

Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) Section 342D-7(i), the State Department of Health (DOH) seeks written comments from interested persons regarding the following. Mr. Virgil Viernes, Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Manager, County of Maui, Department of Environmental Management, Wastewater Reclamation Division, 480 Welakahao Road, Kihei, Hawaii 96753 has applied for a variance for the maximum of five (5) years as stated in the variance application from Hawaii Administrative Rules (HAR) Section 11-62-26. Mr. Virgil Viernes is the individual authorized to act for the applicant and is requesting and extension of the existing variance WW 269, Docket No. 07-Vww-27 granted July 14, 2008. The extension is ofr the Wastewater Reclamation Facility locate at Twelfth Street, Lanai City, Lanai Hawaii 96763 TMK (2) 4-9-014:015.
The applicant has made the following comments.
1. HAR Chapter 11-62-26(b) requires weekly composite sampling. The Lanai facility uses facultative ponds to treat the inflowing wastewater quality. The County of Maui (COM) desires to continue the practice of grab samples to monitor the wastewater quality.
2. The COM is requesting the maximum period time possible, five (5) years.
