OPENING A PROCEEDING TO INVESTIGATE
WHETHER AN OAHU-MAUI INTERISLAND TRANSMISSION SYSTEM
MAY BE IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST

The STATE OF HAWAII PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION (“Commission”), pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes § 269-12, HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that it will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, January 21, 2014, 6:00 p.m. at Farrington High School Cafeteria (1564 North King Street, Honolulu, Hawaii 96817), regarding Docket No. 2013 0169; OPENING A PROCEEDING TO INVESTIGATE WHETHER AN OAHU-MAUI INTERISLAND TRANSMISSION SYSTEM MAY BE IN THE PUBLIC INTEREST, filed on July 11, 2013.
The Commission is seeking input from stakeholders regarding whether an interisland transmission system interconnecting the Oahu and Maui Island electric grids (“Undersea Cable”) may be in the public interest. The Commission is specifically seeking input on policy issues, and overall objectives with respect to how, where, and at what cost an Undersea Cable may be developed, as well as specific comments on the already submitted Initial Comments and Reply Comments. The Commission emphasizes that all comments (verbal or written) should focus on the issues presented in section I.D.2. of Order No. 31356, filed on July 11, 2013, in Docket No. 2013 0169 and be specifically focused on the development of an Undersea Cable between the islands of Oahu and Maui .
Copies of the Opening Order, Initial Public Comments and Reply Comments are available for public review through the Commission’s electronic Document Management System, accessible at http://dms.puc.hawaii.gov/dms/. In addition, copies are also available for review by contacting the Commission’s Honolulu Office (toll-free from the island of Maui, at 974 4000, ext. 62020), or the Division of Consumer Advocacy (toll-free from the island of Maui, at 974-4000, ext. 62800).
All interested persons are invited to attend the public meeting to state their views. Statements may also be mailed to the Public Utilities Commission, 465 South King Street, Room No. 103, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813, or e-mailed to Hawaii.PUC@hawaii.gov. All written statements should reference Docket No. 2013-0169.
