NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Pursuant to section 468E-7 and chapter 91, Hawaii Revised Statutes, notice is hereby given that the Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology (“Board”) will hold a public hearing on March 1, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., in the Queen Liliuokalani Conference Room, First Floor, King Kalakaua Building, Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (“DCCA”), 335 Merchant Street, Honolulu, Hawaii, to hear all persons interested in the proposed amendments to chapter 16-100, Hawaii Administrative Rules , relating to speech pathologists and audiologists.
The purposes of the proposed amendments are to: (1) add a new definition to identify the acronym, “ABA”, for the American Board of Audiology; (2) clarify that applicants must be graduates of a college or university accredited by an accrediting body that is recognized by the United States Department of Education; (3) allow applicants to complete their clinical fellowship under the supervision of an individual who holds a Board Certification in Audiology from the ABA; (4) clarify documents to be submitted with the application; (5) add two educational routes of licensure for audiologists, i.e. doctor of audiology degree (AuD) and a Board Certification in Audiology from the ABA; (6) clarify that the passing scores for the examinations are determined by the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association’s Council for Clinical Certification in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology; and (7) make other non-substantive changes for the purposes of style and clarity.
All interested persons shall be afforded the opportunity to submit data, views, or arguments, orally or in writing, at the time of the hearing. All persons wishing to submit written testimony are requested to submit 12 copies of their written testimony by Friday, February 15, 2013, to the Professional and Vocational Licensing (“PVL”) Division at the address printed below.
A copy of the proposed rules will be mailed to any person who requests a copy upon receipt of $8.60 for the copy and postage. Please submit your request to the PVL Division at the address noted below or contact the Board’s office at (808) 586-2704.
Copies may be picked up at the following address between 7:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays: DCCA, PVL Division, 335 Merchant Street, Room 343, Honolulu, Hawaii 96813. The cost of a copy, $7.50, is due and payable at the time of pick up.
Further, the proposed rules may be reviewed in person free of charge at the PVL Division at the address and hours of operation printed above.
