NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

APPLICATION OF HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC., FOR APPROVAL TO RELOCATE A SECTION OF AN EXISTING 46 KV OVERHEAD SUBTRANSMISSION LINE IN PEARL CITY, ISLAND OF OAHU, AS PART OF THE HALE MOHALU II 46 KV OVERHEAD RELOCATION PROJECT

The STATE OF HAWAII, PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION (“Commission”), pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes§§ 269-27.5 and 269-27.6(a), HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that it will hold a public hearing relating to the Application of HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC. (“HECO”), filed on October 25, 2012, for Commission approval to relocate a section of an existing 46 kilovolt (“kV”) overhead subtransmission line in Pearl City, makai of Kamehameha Highway, as part of the Hale Mohalu II 46 kV Overhead Relocation Project (the “Project”). The public hearing will be held as follows:

The Project will involve the relocation of a section of existing 46 kV and 12 kV overhead lines running through the Hale Mohalu II property along the southern property line. Specifically, the relocation work for the overhead lines will consist of: (1) installing three (3) 65 foot wood poles, five (5) anchors, one (1) 1-phase pole mount transformer, approximately 450 circuit feet of 336.4 KCM AAAC 46 kV overhead conductors, approximately 450 circuit feet of 336.4 KCM AAAC 12 kV overhead conductors, and approximately 450 feet of #3/O KCM AAAC neutral overhead conductors; and (2) removing three (3) 65 foot wood poles, one (1) anchor, approximately 360 circuit feet of 336.4 KCM AAAC 46 kV overhead conductors, approximately 350 feet of 336.4 KCM AAAC 12 kV overhead conductors, and approximately 350 feet of #3/O KCM AAAC neutral overhead conductors.
The purpose of the relocation is to accommodate the development of residential units in Pearl City, makai of Kamehameha Highway. HECO states that the relocated 46 kV subtransmission line will be visible from nearby homes and the existing Hale Mohalu senior apartments in Pearl City. The Project’s estimated cost is $218,600, which will be paid for by the developer of the residential units.

All interested persons are invited to attend the public hearing to state their views on HECO’s Application.
