Temporary Exempt Positions
The Hawai’i Insurance Division has been awarded grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (“HHS”) all relating to the analyses of rates on accident and health or sickness insurance in Hawai`i. The grants are concerned with accident and health or sickness insurers not filing rates that are excessive, inadequate or unfairly discriminatory in relation to the coverage afforded pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes (HRS) chapters 431, 432, and 432D and that they are in compliance with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“PPACA”) of 2010 by using acceptable analytical methods and techniques.
The Insurance Division is seeking qualified applicants for the above positions to assist in the review of these insurers’ rate filings. Applicants should have an understanding of generally accepted insurance principles and understanding of the consumer protection issues relating to long-term care and health insurance. Applicants should also be able to manage work independently, research basic issues, have strong organizational skills, have the ability to analyze and evaluate rate filings, be able to analyze insurance policies and endorsements when variations from standard guidelines are filed or when there is evidence that there are possible violations, be able to determine whether technical language within the various sections of a policy comply with law, and accumulate experience and other statistical data required for development of insurance rate trends, classification studies, and fiscal reports.
