TECHNICAL DIRECTOR
NATIONAL DEFENSE CENTER OF EXCELLENCE FOR RESEARCH IN OCEAN SCIENCES (CEROS)
The Board of Directors of the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii Authority (NELHA), invites resumes for the position of Technical Director of the National Defense Center of Excellence for Research in Ocean Sciences (CEROS). CEROS was established in 1993 to solicit and support innovative technologies for maritime military applications and sustained technology-based economic development in Hawaii. The CEROS Technical Director provides leadership in strategic planning, project development, program management and funding for the program. The Technical Director’s main responsibilities will be (1) to establish and maintain program support and continuity; (2) to develop and implement operational and strategic plans for CEROS; (3) to coordinate and direct CEROS activities; (4) to develop and implement CEROS program policy; and (5) to represent CEROS and foster its interests. The position involves significant interaction with high-ranking state and federal officials/legislators, science advisors/military commanders and with senior executive/technical personnel in the ocean sciences and in commercial ocean enterprises. Qualifications: (1) Bachelor of Science (Master of Science preferred) from an accredited college or university in oceanography, marine science or engineering, or other ocean related curriculum; (2) eight or more years of responsible project administration in marine science or ocean engineering; (3) four years experience in technical management of federally-funded R&D; (4) broad experience with state and federal agencies that have technical, fiscal or commercial interests in marine science and technology; and (5) U.S. citizen and ability to obtain security clearance. Candidates who have developed, marketed and managed significant projects under Department of Defense funding and who have local, national and international experience/qualifications in the field of marine science and technology are preferred. This is an exempt and excluded State of Hawaii position; continued employment is dependent upon available funding.
