778-Burial Stabilization
Public Notice
All persons having information concerning a Native Hawaiian unmarked human burial, present in the ’Ili of Kanapou within the Kaho’olawe Island Reserve (TMK (2)1-1-000 and SIHP 50-20-97-778) are hereby requested to contact Kahale Saito, Cultural Resources Project Coordinator, Kaho’olawe Island Reserve Commission, (808)243-5020, 811 Kolu St. Suite 201, Wailuku, HI 96793.
The State, as the current property manager intends to stabilize the site in order to ensure long-term preservation of the burial in place, in accordance with a plan to be reviewed and approved by the Kaho’olawe Island Burial Council, one Native Hawaiian human burial present within the property. All interested parties should respond within (30) days of this notice and provide information to KIRC adequately demonstrating lineal descent from the Native Hawaiian remains, or cultural descent from ancestors buried in the same ahupua’a in which the Native Hawaiian remains are buried.
