NOTICE OF PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS
IN A FLOODPLAIN
The City and County of Honolulu has approved a grant for Lanakila Rehabilitation Center, Inc. under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program FY09. The grant for this project will fund planning, design and construction of accessibility and other improvements to ensure the health and safety of all participants and visitors to the Lanakilia Center for Adult with Disabilities located at 1809 Bachelot Street, Honolulu, Hawaii, Tax Map Key 1-7-015:002. The property is located within Zone AE (Base Flood Elevation Determined) flood zone identified on the Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM), 15003C0354F, September 30, 2004.
The proposed improvements include, but are not limited to, updating the bathrooms, installing grab bars in the hallway, and replacing the elevator. The project also involves redesign of the Adult Day Services classrooms to teach home management skills, and an educational area for employment research and computer skills training.
Total Cost: $2,462,436
CDBG Funds: $300,000
Zoning: R-5 Residential District
Area in Flood Zone: 77,803 square feet
The Department of Community Services is preparing a review to determine if there are any practicable alternatives to locating the project in the floodplain, and to identify potential adverse impacts that may result from this project, as well as mitigation measures that may be necessary to protect the floodplain.
