NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 91, the Wailupe Valley Elementary-Aina Haina Elementary Schools Task Force (Task Force) appointed by the Hawaii State Department of Education will conduct a public hearing on April 8, 2009, commencing at 6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria of Niu Valley Middle School, 310 Halemaumau Street, Honolulu, HI 96821 on the following:

PROPOSED CONSOLIDATION OF SCHOOLS
A public hearing will be held to hear all persons interested in the Task Force report submitted to Complex Area Superintendent Ronn Nozoe in regards to the consolidation of Wailupe Valley Elementary (939 Hind Iuka Drive, Honolulu, HI 96821) and Aina Haina Elementary Schools (801 W. Hind Drive, Honolulu, HI 96821).

Copies of the Task Force report may be picked up at no charge between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. (Monday through Friday, excluding state holidays) at the Wailupe Valley Elementary and Aina Haina Elementary School offices. The Task Force report is available at http://doe.k12.hi.us. A copy of the Task Force report will be mailed for a $2.00 fee (payable in advance) to any interested person who submits a written request to the DOE Honolulu District Office, 4967 Kilauea Avenue Honolulu, Hawaii 96816.

All interested persons will be afforded the opportunity to present testimony, orally or in writing, on the Task Force report at the time of the public hearing. Persons wishing to submit written testimony are requested to submit one copy of their written testimony at the time of their presentation.

Public testimony may be submitted at the hearing, mailed to the DOE Honolulu District Office, 4967 Kilauea Avenue Honolulu, Hawaii 96816 or emailed to joan_funamura@notes.k12.hi.us. Written and emailed testimonies must be received no later than three business days following the public hearing date. Interested persons may contact the DOE Honolulu District Office at (808) 733-4760 for related inquiries.

Following the public hearing, the Task Force will meet to formulate a recommendation to Complex Area Superintendent Ronn Nozoe on whether and when Wailupe Valley Elementary School should be consolidated with Aina Haina Elementary School.
