NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETINGS

PROCEEDING TO EXAMINE HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC. (“HECO”), HAWAII ELECTRIC LIGHT COMPANY, INC. (“HELCO”), AND MAUI ELECTRIC COMPANY, LIMITED\u00D5S (“MECO”) PROPOSAL FOR A RENEWABLE ENERGY INFRASTRUCTURE PROGRAM

DOCKET NO. 2007-0416

The PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION of the STATE OF HAWAII (“Commission”) HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that it will hold public meetings relating to the proposal by HECO, HELCO, and MECO (collectively, “HECO Companies”), in Docket No. 2007-0008, for a Renewable Energy Infrastructure Program (“REI Program”). The REI Program includes, among other proposals: (1) a Renewable Energy Infrastructure Surcharge to ratepayers that would allow electric utilities in Hawaii to recover the costs of renewable energy infrastructure projects that facilitate third-party development of renewable energy resources, maintain existing renewable energy resources and/or enhance energy choices for customers; and (2) a consolidation incentive mechanism that would allow the HECO Companies to recover costs for renewable energy infrastructure projects built in the County of Hawaii and/or the County of Maui through a sharing of costs between the neighbor islands (County of Hawaii and/or the County of Maui, as appropriate) and Oahu ratepayers. Although the HECO Companies proposed the REI Program in Docket No. 2007-0008, the Commission initiated this docket to separately examine whether the proposed REI Program is just and reasonable.
