PUBLIC NOTICE

Notice is hereby given that the Kauai County Housing Agency (KCHA), pursuant to Federal Regulations at 24 CFR 982.206 and Section 4-II.C of the Administrative Plan of its Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program, will open the waiting list to applications for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. The waiting list will open at 8:00 AM HST on Wednesday, September 6, 2017 and will close at 4:00 PM HST on Friday, September 8, 2017.

The purpose of the waiting list is to generate an adequate pool of eligible families to participate in the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program offering subsidized rental assistance to extremely-low and very-low income households.

Pursuant to Federal Regulations at 24 CFR 982.207 and Section 4-III.C of its Administrative Plan of the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, the following local preferences will be offered and enforced in order of hierarchy:
1. Any family that has been terminated from KCHA’s HCV Program due to insufficient program funding.
2. Any family participating under the KCHA’s Tenant-Based Rental Assistance Program.
3. Any family who are considered to be living in place in an existing rental unit in KCHA’s jurisdiction, but not currently on the HCV Program.
4. Any family who is certified as being currently homeless in KCHA’s jurisdiction by a homeless service provider, homeless shelter or participating agency in the Continuum of Care.
5. A residency preference for a family that resides in Kauai County or includes a family member who works, or has been notified that they are hired to work in Kauai County.

All interested individuals and families are invited to apply for the waiting list during the abovementioned open period online at www.waitlistcheck.com/hi005. Individuals and families without access to the Internet or computer may pick up and complete a paper application at the Kauai County Housing Agency located at 4444 Rice Street, Suite 330, Lihue, Kauai, Hawaii between the hours of 8:00AM and 4:00PM, September 6-8, 2017. Paper applications must be postmarked by September 8, 2017. KCHA will not be responsible for lost mail or incomplete applications. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Due to limited funding availability, applications will be selected and ordered using a random lottery system. Not all applicants will be placed on the waiting list.
