Facilities Planning and Design
Registered Architect (Director of Facilities Planning)

Position Number 80767, Pay Band D, full-time, permanent, to begin approximately April, 2017.

Responsible for leadership, direction, and development of master planning for UH Hilo lands, facility utilization and maintenance, facility sustainability and energy management initiatives, CIP and CRDM programs, and campus design guidelines. Directs the development and implementation of UH Hilo master planning, including space requirements, architectural programs, design standards and criteria, and cost estimates. Directs all aspects of infrastructure improvement projects to ensure compliance with the campus strategic plan. Provides leadership in the development and evaluation of UH Hilo facility portfolio to ensure compliance with federal, state and county laws, rules and regulations. Ensures conformance with sound management principles and practices, and operational safeguard policies and procedures. Provides leadership and direction in the design process for major architectural and engineering projects, including approval of all UH Hilo construction and renovation to ensure conformity with campus aesthetics, guidelines and standards. Directs and reviews the work of staff architects and engineers in terms of technical, functional, and aesthetic adequacy, and conformance with University policies, regulations, and legal requirements; determines work priorities and broad work assignments. Ensures alignment of campus physical plant priorities with available funding sources, and UH Hilo’s financial sustainability. Other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate must possess a baccalaureate degree in architecture, architectural engineering or related field and 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for professional architectural work, of which 6 years shall have been as a registered architect involved in the development of long range plans, master planning, or CIP and land management for a large scale public or private entity; or equivalent education/training or experience.
