Docket No. 2014-0308

The STATE OF HAWAII, PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION (“Commission”), pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes §§ 269-27.5 and 269-27.6(a), HEREBY GIVES NOTICE that it will hold a public hearing relating to the Application of HAWAIIAN ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC. (“HECO”), filed on October 10, 2014, as amended. The public hearing will be held as follows:

February 12, 2015, 3:30 p.m.
Nanaikapono Elementary School Cafeteria
89-153 Mano Avenue
Waianae, Oahu

*Note: The public hearing will coincide with the public hearing for In re Hawaiian Elec. Co., Inc., Docket No. 2014-0354, involving HECO’s application, filed on December 4, 2014, to construct a different, new section of 46 kilovolt (“kV”) overhead sub-transmission line extension, in Waianae, Oahu.

HECO is the franchised provider of electric utility service on the island of Oahu. HECO requests the Commission’s approval to construct a new section of 46 kV overhead sub-transmission line, which will be an extension of HECO’s existing Kahe-Permanente 46 kV overhead sub-transmission line located along Farrington Highway in Leeward Oahu. The scope of work for HECO’s proposed new section of 46 kV overhead sub-transmission line extension will include the installation of: (1) a new 65-foot self-supporting steel pole, to be located near Farrington Highway and Kaupuhi Stream in Waianae, Oahu; (2) a new 46 kV rated, group operated, vertically mounted inertia air switch; and (3) approximately 160 circuit feet of 556 KCM AAC 46 kV overhead conductors.
The purpose of the proposed new section of 46 kV overhead sub-transmission line extension is to interconnect HECO’s electric system with the proposed 13.8 megawatt (“MW”) photovoltaic (i.e., solar) facility that will be owned and operated by Ka La Nui Solar, LLC, whose ultimate parent entity is NextEra Energy, Inc. The proposed 13.8 MW photovoltaic facility will be located on land that is leased from Mountain View Dairy in Waianae, Oahu.
Copies of HECO’s Application, as amended, are available for review through the Commission’s electronic Document Management System, accessible on-line at the following website address: http://dms.puc.hawaii.gov/dms/, Docket Quick Link 2014-0308.
